We at Environmental Defence, along with a broad coalition of groups, are
planning an environment-themed rally at Queen’s Park to make a big
splash ahead of the provincial elections and demonstrate that the
environment is a key election issue!

We’re bringing our various issues together to show all politicians
that Ontarians want a government that will take immediate action to
bring down emissions, protect biodiversity, and build sustainable
communities.

The rally organizing coalition includes Climate Voice (itself a
coalition consisting of groups such as Fridays for Future and labour
organizations), David Suzuki Foundation, Canadian Association of
Physicians for the Environment (CAPE) Ontario, Ontario Climate Emergency
Campaign, and many others.

The next few months will set the course for Ontario’s climate policies
and natural spaces for years to come.

We want to ensure we are doing everything we can to make an impact.

We would be happy for you to simply show up on the day of or your
group/organization can endorse the rally. This involves sending the
event to your Ontario email list, posting the event to your social media
channels, and encouraging your members to attend. Your organization
will be listed as an “endorser” on the event page and call-out. You

We’re excited to be running the Youth Leadership program again this year (finally!). The last one was in 2019. Attached are all the details.

We are keeping it low at a total of 20 students – so space is very limited. We’ll do a draw if we get more than 20 applicants. This is open to 9-12 grade students from Caledon schools – and must also be a resident of Caledon. Please share within your communities if you can.

I vividly remember writing this story. I was living in “The Grange House”, which was definitely not one of the highlights of my life, as you will learn. I had a full time change management consulting contract with Natural Resources Canada at the time. They allowed me to work out of my house as long as I commuted to Ottawa for a week every month to deliver training sessions.

I’ll be telling stories and reading from my book “It’s Never The Things You Think”. You’ll learn how I got started (read: dragged into) step dancing with my friend Marlene! You might get some unique perspectives about my passion for fly fishing or making music, and some of the hidden lessons in the stories that others have shared with me.

The world in which we are living in right now is a bit scary and painful. I don’t want to ignore or downplay the seriousness of what is going, but I do believe we need to pause and reflect on some simple joys in our lives. That’s what my stories will do – bring a smile to your face and lift your spirits.

Gather Café is a place where happiness, health and community come together. Meet me there to find your smile, lift your spirits, and enjoy a coffee and stories that celebrate those simple joys.

Wouldn’t you know it. A few short months after I moved out of Belfountain (having been born there), what happens? Paras opens her yoga studio in back of the Higher Ground Café.

But I didn’t let a 10k move stop me. How could I resist a yoga class taking place where I pumped gasoline as a teenager? I can’t imagine what John and Roy Trimble would think if they were to see their old building today.

To start, Paras is offering classes on Saturday mornings at 9am and Thursday evenings at 6pm. Each class is an hour long. There were eight students in my class last Saturday. If there is more demand, she’ll add more classes.

A 15-year pro, Paras is a polished teacher. Her class is big on stretching and getting your blood flowing without the more difficult poses that might scare off beginners. For me, it was a wonderful way to start the weekend. Better yet, I had coffee afterwards in the café with my friend Susanne from the Caledon Mountain Estates.

We have notified by the Town of Caledon of the following meeting regarding LDD Moths in Caledon:

Credit Valley, Halton, Hamilton, Lake Simcoe, and Toronto Region Conservation Authorities are pleased to offer a free informational webinar on the LDD moth (or spongy moth, previously known as European gypsy moth) on Wednesday, April 20th at 6:30pm. The webinar will provide an overview of the LDD moth life cycle, how to identify them, infestation forecasts for 2022, and management options that property owners can consider. Conservation authority experts will be in attendance to answer questions from participants.

Registration for the webinar will open on Friday, March 25th with the registration link available on CVC’s LDD moth webpage and events calendar. A recording of the webinar will subsequently be made available on CVC’s LDD moth webpage. Please feel free to share this message with residents and any other interested parties.

We are currently recruiting for new members of the Belfountain Community Organization Board of Directors. Membership in the Belfountain Community Organization (“B.C.O.”) is available to all residents of Belfountain and environs by registering at www.belfountain.ca or emailing secretary@belfountain.ca.   The Board of Directors are elected by the members at the Annual General Meeting (“AGM”) which will be held on May 4th, 2022 7 p.m. this year.  After soliciting feedback from the members, the Board of Directors (“Board”) vote to decide how to move the Belfountain Community Organization forward.

The Board organizes all our volunteer activities, manages our relationships with local communities and First Nations, and liaises government agencies, Staff, Councillors and the Mayor at the Town of Caledon and Region of Peel.   The Belfountain Community Organization mandate from the residents, and therefore the mission statement, is to act in a manner that is  “Committed to Preserving the Rural, Heritage and Environmental Integrity of the Hamlet of Belfountain and its Environs”.

This year brings many changes to the B.C.O. Board.  Several long tenured members have chosen not to continue on in 2022, due to moving out of the area and changes in personal commitments.   The focus of the Board for many years is the land under the proposed Manors of Belfountain development.  The Erin Waste Water Treatment Plant and aggregate mining are threatening the Credit River and surrounding land.   The new Board will work through the final outcomes of these situations as a new President, Vice President, and Secretary are elected.

By reviewing the successful projects of the Board of 2021, we have identified the skills required to provide the future Board with support.   If you are interested in being considered for the Board of Directors, you are required to complete a Nomination Form prior to the AGM.   As you complete your nomination form, we are asking you identify the specific skills you have so that we can align.   We are asking for these details through a survey which is accessed through the link in the form. 2022 Belfountain Nomination Form and Skills Survey

We are hoping that even if you chose not to join the Board of Directors in a formal way, you can offer your help and volunteer to be a resource to the Board when needed.   If you prefer not to join the Board of Directors please email secretary@belfountain.ca and let us know how you could help. These are the skills that are needed:  Corporate Governance, Finance and Audit, Communication, Human Resources and Personnel, Governmental Policy and Public Affairs, Property Land Use and Development, Sector Knowledge (Heritage, Rural Communities, et. ) Strategic Planning (Development and Execution), Social Food & Beverage, Event Planning, community knowledge and ties, Marketing, Insurance and Risk Management, Information Technology, and/or Social Media.
