Outside Track Concert at Higher Ground, Monday, March 7th!
One of the top Celtic acts in the world.
Arranged by Susan Gesner
You all know I LOVE music, and pretend to be a fiddler and guitar player. My passion for Celtic music runs deep, and a few years ago, I heard an incredible group called The Outside Track while I was in Goderich at the Goderich Celtic Festival. http://www.theoutsidetrack.com/
They blew me away.
Naturally, I “followed” them on Facebook. They were touring somewhere in Europe when lo and behold, a message went out to followers that they had some down time while touring Ontario. They were curious as to whether anyone might want to host a house party or something or the sort.
If it meant I was going to hear them perform again, I was going to host a “something of the sort”!
My house is pint-sized, so a house party here would consist of 6 people sitting on chairs and another 6 pressed up against the wall! So I asked some friends if they might have a spot. The most wonderful Kathleen Henning from Henning Salon in Orangeville offered her salon for a night in late February. Alas, the group was going to be in Montréal, and not able to make it there in time. But Sam Shepherd at the Higher Ground Coffee Company here in Belfountain stepped up and we now have a place for a concert!
If you are interested in coming (and I can’t see why you wouldn’t), please get in touch as soon as possible! I’m going to be selling tickets, and I want to make sure everyone who wants to hear this incredible group has chance to do that. And please, send this note around to anyone and everyone you think might want get lifted off their seat with this wonderful, soul lifting music!
Winner of ‘Best Group’ in both the Live Ireland awards and the Tradition In Review awards, The Outside Track are one of the top Celtic acts in the world. They were ‘Best Live Act’ nominees in the 2013 MG Alba Scots Traditional Music Awards, and won the German Radio Critics Prize 2014, for their latest album Flash Company. Live Ireland called them, ‘Among the top bands in the world – stunning on every cut!’.
The Outside Track’s marriage of Celtic music, song and dance has been rapturously received around the world. Hailing from Scotland, Ireland, and Cape Breton, its five members are united by a love of traditional music and a commitment to creating new music on this as a foundation. They blend fiddle, accordion, harp, guitar, whistle, step-dance and vocals with breathtaking vitality. Their blend of boundless energy and unmistakable joie de vivre has won them a large following around the globe.
